During a four-day state visit to the United States (April 27–30, 2026), King Charles III and Queen Camilla paid solemn respects at New York’s National 9/11 Memorial on April 29–30, laying a bouquet and a handwritten note pledging “enduring solidarity” with victims’ families and first responders.
The royal couple were escorted by former mayor Michael Bloomberg and met New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani, New York and New Jersey governors, and relatives of the nearly 3,000 people killed in the 2001 attacks.
The visit formed part of a broader programme that included King Charles’s address to a joint session of US Congress, a White House state banquet with President Donald Trump, a Harlem urban-farming visit, Queen Camilla’s appearance at the New York Public Library marking Winnie-the-Pooh’s centenary, and a wreath-laying at Arlington National Cemetery on the final day.
The trip, timed to mark 250 years since American independence, took place against a backdrop of diplomatic strain between Washington and London over the war with Iran, with heavy security measures in place throughout.
