Caleb Shomo, 33, the lead singer and founder of US rock band Beartooth, has publicly come out as gay in a social media statement posted on May 23, 2026.
In the Instagram message he described a long personal reckoning, saying he is âa proudly gay manâ and that giving up alcohol after âa decade burying feelingsâ helped him confront his sexuality.
Shomo said he will write and present himself more honestly on Beartoothâs upcoming sixth album, Pure Ecstasy, due in August, and the band has international dates including Australian shows in January 2027.
Fleur Shomo, his wife of nearly 14 years, posted that she will support him but described recent months as âdisorientating and hurtful,â and confirmed the end of their marriage.
The announcement follows a recent single, âFree,â and online commentary that prompted Shomo to temporarily remove social media; some public homophobic responses to his new look were later apologised for.
The story has been reported across music and mainstream outlets worldwide.
