US media reported on May 30-31 that President Donald Trump asked aides to amend a proposed memorandum of understanding that would pause the US‑Israel military campaign against Iran and begin talks on Tehran’s nuclear programme.
The White House Situation Room meeting lasted about two hours; officials told outlets the president sought tougher language on handling Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile, clearer timing and mechanics for transfer or disposal of material, and firmer guarantees on reopening the Strait of Hormuz for unrestricted shipping.
Trump also raised concerns about provisions that could involve unfreezing Iranian funds.
The revised draft was sent back to Tehran for consideration, with US officials estimating a response could take several days.
Negotiators had reportedly agreed a 60‑day window to negotiate nuclear commitments and sanctions relief, but final approval awaits sign‑off by Trump and Iran’s supreme leader, complicating and potentially lengthening talks.
Iranian leaders have reiterated demands for tangible results before making concessions.
