PARIS, June 2 (Reuters) - Russian teenager Mirra Andreeva powered into the French Open semi-finals with a dominant 6-0, 6-3 victory over Romanian veteran Sorana Cirstea on Tuesday.
Playing under the roof on Court Philippe Chatrier, the 19-year-old raced through the opening set in 24 minutes and closed out the match in 56 minutes to reach her second Roland Garros semi-final.
Andreeva, who has recorded 16 main-draw Paris wins â the most by a teenager this century â will face Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk for a place in her first Grand Slam final.
The draw has been depleted by the absence of defending champion Coco Gauff and four-time winner Iga Swiatek, elevating Andreeva among the leading contenders alongside world number one Aryna Sabalenka.
Cirstea, 36, playing what she has said will be her final season, praised Andreevaâs personality and potential, calling her âa blessingâ for the sport.
Andreeva credited belief and preparation for her form and said she felt more mature handling the pressures that troubled her in Paris last year.
