The Carolina Hurricanes fell 5-4 to the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final in Raleigh on June 3, exposing persistent issues with their top line and power play.
Sebastian Aho, Andrei Svechnikov and Seth Jarvis â Carolina's primary scoring trio â remain largely goal-less at even strength, combining for just three five-on-five goals through 14 postseason games and failing to register points in Game 1.
The Hurricanes went 0-for-2 on the power play in the opener and have converted just 7 of 58 chances (12.1%) this postseason, down from a 24.9% conversion rate in the regular season.
Coach Rod Brind'Amour urged better execution and more offensive zone time for his top forwards; teammates pointed to missed chances and the need for patience.
The single-game lapse included Jarvis firing directly into goaltender Carter Hart and TomĂĄĹĄ Hertl converting the eventual game-winner against Frederik Andersen.
Carolina has 48 hours to regroup before Game 2 at Lenovo Center, with a heavier reliance on secondary scoring from players such as Taylor Hall and Logan Stankoven if the top line does not rebound.
