The Toronto Sceptres on Wednesday re-signed defender Renata Fast and goaltender Raygan Kirk to three-year PWHL standard player agreements, ensuring both players are protected from the league’s expansion process.
The moves lock Fast, 31, and Kirk, 25, under contract through the 2028-29 season and count among the Sceptres’ three foundational protections ahead of Phase 2 of the roster distribution process.
Fast, a Burlington, Ont., native and three-time Olympian, was the PWHL Defender of the Year in 2024-25 and has 45 career points, making her one of the league’s top blue-liners.
Kirk earned the starting job last season and posted an 8-8-6 record with three shutouts, a 1.87 goals-against average and a .934 save percentage.
The signings come as the PWHL prepares to add four expansion franchises — Detroit, Las Vegas, San Jose and Hamilton, Ont. — which begin signing foundational players later this week.
The Sceptres have yet to name their third protected player and had until Wednesday, June 3 at 5 p.m.
ET to finalize Phase 1 protections.
