ANAHEIM, California — Los Angeles Angels outfielder Jo Adell unintentionally turned a TJ Rumfield fly ball into a solo home run on June 3, 2026, when the ball grazed his glove, bounced off the top of his head and crossed the right-center field wall at Angel Stadium.
Umpires confirmed the play a homer after brief on-field confusion when the ball caromed off a scoreboard and back into the outfield; Rumfield initially paused at second before circling the bases.
The misplay came in the fourth inning of Colorado’s 8-2 victory over the Angels and compounded a tough night for Adell, who went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts as Los Angeles fell to 23-39.
The sequence revived memories of José Canseco’s similar 1993 blunder.
Adell, a 2024 Gold Glove finalist who earlier this season robbed three would-be homers in one game, acknowledged the mistake and said the play “looks like I’ve never played in the field before,” adding that he must move on and so must the team.
