Jake Maier will make his Ottawa Redblacks debut as the Canadian Football League opens Week 1, with the Redblacks hosting the Edmonton Elks in the season slate running June 4-6, 2026.
Maier, who signed in the off-season after backing up Trevor Harris with Grey Cup champion Saskatchewan in 2025 and starting for Calgary from 2021-24, was named Ottawaâs starting quarterback for the opener.
Ryan Dinwiddie also begins his tenure as Ottawaâs head coach and general manager after five seasons with the Toronto Argonauts.
Edmonton will start veteran Cody Fajardo and added offensive-line pieces in the off-season â including Coulter Woodmansey, Brendan Bordner and Jordan Murray â to address a league-high 40 sacks allowed by Fajardo last year.
Week 1 also features a rematch of last yearâs East Division final as the Montreal Alouettes visit the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (June 4) and a Winnipeg Blue Bombers vs.
Calgary Stampeders game (June 5) highlighted by Calgaryâs strong rushing attack.
Media outlets and betting outlets have picked Ottawa in the opener, with pundits noting team changes and key player milestones across the schedule.
