Seattle Mariners first baseman Josh Naylor returned to the lineup Wednesday, June 3, after exiting Monday’s game with back spasms following a game-tying home run off Mets reliever Brooks Raley.
Naylor, batting third, had sat out Tuesday but was available off the bench; manager Dan Wilson said he felt much better.
The 28-year-old is hitting .254 with six homers and 25 RBIs, recovering from a 0-for-15 start that left him at .102 through the club’s first 15 games before a strong May (.296 in 108 at-bats). Acquired in 2025 from Arizona, Naylor signed a five-year, $92.5 million contract in November and has been a key contributor as Seattle won a season-best eight straight games to build a 2½-game AL West lead.
Backup Patrick Wisdom filled in at first during Naylor’s absence.
Catcher Cal Raleigh, on the injured list since May 14 with a right oblique strain, has begun pregame work in Seattle and is expected to start a rehab assignment as the Mariners embark on a 10-game road trip beginning Friday in Detroit.
