Spain set a new tourism record in 2025, welcoming 96.8 million foreign visitors, a 3.2% rise on 2024, the National Statistics Institute (INE) said.
Overseas visitor spending rose faster than arrivals, up 6.8% to €134.7 billion, as tourism accounted for about 12.6% of GDP. Catalonia remained the most visited region with roughly 20.06 million international tourists; the Balearic and Canary Islands and major cities also drew large flows.
The top source markets were the United Kingdom (about 19 million visitors), France (12.7 million) and Germany (12 million). Madrid, Andalucía and Valencia saw above-average spending growth, and average daily expenditure climbed in some urban areas even as average stays shortened.
Officials said the results support a strategy to prioritise ‘‘quality over quantity’’ and sustainable tourism; rising demand has increased pressure on housing and city-centre accommodation and renewed debate over short-term rental regulations.
Globally, the UN tourism barometer recorded about 1.52 billion international arrivals in 2025, underscoring a broad post-pandemic rebound in travel.
