Bo Horvat scored 52 seconds into overtime as the New York Islanders edged the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-4 at UBS Arena in Elmont, N.Y., on Tuesday night.
The Islanders rallied from multiple deficits to snap a two-game skid and move within a point of the Penguins in the Metropolitan Division.
Mathew Barzal had a goal and two assists, rookie defenseman Matthew Schaefer added a goal and an assist, and Ryan Pulock also scored; Ilya Sorokin made 31 saves.
For Pittsburgh, Justin Brazeau had a goal and an assist, while Anthony Mantha, Egor Chinakhov and Bryan Rust also scored; Stuart Skinner stopped 18 shots.
The game was played in the Islanders’ penultimate contest before the Olympic break.
In a quirky moment, a bird briefly landed on the ice behind the Penguins’ net during the game and was safely released afterward.
