Arizona State beat Utah 71-63 in Salt Lake City on Wednesday, snapping a six-game Big 12 road losing streak and handing the Utes a ninth defeat in 10 games.
Freshman Massamba Diop scored 15 points and made nine of 10 free throws as the Sun Devils converted 22 of 25 attempts (88%) from the line — their second-best mark of the season — to offset a 38.6% team shooting night.
Anthony Johnson added 14 points and Maurice Odum had 13 as Arizona State (12-11, 3-7 Big 12) held Utah to 63 points.
Don McHenry led the Utes with 23 points and Seydou Traore scored 16, but leading scorer Terrence Brown was limited to six points on 2-of-16 shooting.
Utah fell to 9-13 (1-8 Big 12). Arizona State used seven players and improved to 7-0 when holding opponents to 70 or fewer points.
The Sun Devils led by as many as 18 in the first half before Utah trimmed the margin late; Arizona State closed the game at the line.
