Ian Katz, Channel 4’s longest-serving chief content officer, will step down in October after almost nine years leading the broadcaster’s commissioning and programming operations.
Katz oversaw a period of creative renewal and the channel’s transition from linear TV to streaming — driving streaming from roughly 20% to about 50% of Channel 4 viewing — while managing an annual programming budget of around £650 million.
His slate included hits and notable commissions such as Taskmaster, Gogglebox, The Great British Bake Off (refreshed under his tenure), It’s A Sin, Big Boys, We Are Lady Parts, The Piano and recent drama and factual projects due in 2026.
Katz will remain in post through October to deliver the 2026 slate.
His departure follows the arrival of new CEO Priya Dogra and comes amid earlier senior exits at the channel, criticism over reliance on legacy formats, and prior financial pressures that produced revenue declines, budget cuts and staff layoffs.
Channel 4 has said a recruitment process for his successor will begin imminently.
