Paramount Pictures announced on April 16, 2026 at CinemaCon in Las Vegas that Top Gun 3 is officially in development, with Tom Cruise set to return as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell and Jerry Bruckheimer attached as producer.
Studio co-head Josh Greenstein said a script is underway; Ehren Kruger, who worked on Top Gun: Maverick, has been tied to the project.
The presentation included a promotional video narrated by Cruise filmed on the Paramount lot’s iconic water tower.
No director or release date has been confirmed and the participation of other Maverick-era cast members remains unannounced.
The third film follows the 2022 blockbuster Top Gun: Maverick, which grossed roughly $1.5 billion worldwide, and comes as Paramount continues to prioritise franchise-driven output under new leadership after its 2025 Skydance merger.
Reports say development conversations date back to 2024, with writers and producers refining story ideas but key production details still to be finalised.
