A large controlled explosion that rattled parts of Toronto on the night of April 16–17, 2026, was confirmed by police to be part of a pre-approved film production described in local permits as “Project Bot.” The pyrotechnic effects at Downsview Park — opposite the temporary Rogers Stadium and near Downsview Airport — produced loud booms, flashes and a mushroom-shaped plume of smoke that alarmed neighbourhood residents, some of whom recalled a deadly propane plant blast in 2008.
City and park notices issued the week of April 13 warned of planned loud noises, flashes and brief smoke; a filming notification listed prep and wrap dates of April 15–17.
Drake posted clips of the explosion to his Instagram story and other outlets and industry commentators connected the stunt to the rapper’s long-teased ninth solo album, Iceman, as part of its marketing rollout.
Police and fire services described the incident as controlled and carried out by licensed professionals; no injuries or public-safety incidents were reported.
