Court records dated April 2026 show Jay Bryant, one of three men federally indicted in the 2002 killing of Run-DMC DJ Jam Master Jay, intends to change his plea to guilty as part of a negotiated agreement with prosecutors.
Bryant, who pleaded not guilty after his 2023 indictment, has been in federal custody on separate drug and firearms charges to which he has already pleaded guilty and is awaiting sentencing.
Prosecutors say Bryantâs DNA was found on a hat at the Queens studio where Jason Mizell was shot, and allege he opened a rear door to admit co-defendants Ronald Washington and Karl Jordan Jr. into the building.
Washington and Jordan were convicted by a jury in 2024, though Judge LaShann DeArcy Hall overturned Jordanâs verdict in 2025, prompting a U.S. attorneysâ appeal.
Court filings show plea negotiations are ongoing but a date for any change of plea has not been set, and Bryant could still reverse course.
Prosecutors declined comment and Bryantâs lawyer has not publicly detailed any terms.
