Two U.S. Embassy staffers and two Mexican law enforcement officials were killed in a car accident on Sunday, April 19, 2026, in the northern Mexican state of Chihuahua, authorities said.
The four were returning from an operation to locate and destroy clandestine drug laboratories in the municipality of Morelos when the crash occurred, Chihuahua Attorney General César Jåuregui Moreno said.
Mexican state officials identified the victims as State Investigation Agency Director Pedro Romån Oseguera Cervantes and officer Manuel Genaro Méndez Montes.
The U.S. personnel, described as instructors who train and collaborate with Mexican law enforcement, have not been publicly named.

Details about the cause and exact location of the accident remain limited, and both Mexican authorities and the U.S. Embassy said investigations are underway.
The incident adds to security tensions in regions where joint U.S.-Mexican antiâcartel operations have intensified in recent months.
