On April 20, 2026, filmmaker Frank Marshall said his documentary Rachel, Breathe was pulled from ESPN2 an hour before its scheduled broadcast after what he described as a rights disagreement with the network.
Marshall posted on X that the dispute was ânot about money, but rights,â and that ESPN lawyers abruptly stopped negotiating and told the filmmakers to sign immediately or the airing would be cancelled.
The film, produced by The Kennedy/Marshall Company with Aly Parker, Tony Rosenthal and Joanna Forscher, chronicles marathoner Rachel Fosterâs recovery after a coma and her 2023 Boston Marathon comeback, and follows her preparation for the 2025 Boston Marathon.
Variety reported the documentaryâs debut had been scheduled before a licensing agreement was finalised and that new terms prompted additional legal review on ESPNâs part.
ESPN had not provided comment to media outlets at the time of reporting, and the filmmakers said they will announce a new premiere date when resolved.
