Poland’s CD Projekt Red on May 27 announced Songs of the Past, a new story expansion for 2015’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt slated for release in 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. The studio said the expansion, which returns players to Geralt of Rivia, is co-developed with Polish studio Fool’s Theory and that fuller details will be revealed in late summer 2026.
The announcement followed an accidental reveal via the company’s RED Launcher and trademark filings.
Alongside the title and platforms, CD Projekt published updated system requirements effective from the next game update: the studio will no longer test on Windows 10, will require Windows 11 and SSD storage going forward, and has moved to DirectX 12; minimum recommended PC specs have been raised.
Market reaction was muted: CD Projekt shares initially rose but then fell about 4% after investors noted the expansion was expected earlier and could affect timing for Witcher 4.
The company continues work on Witcher 4, a Cyberpunk sequel and other projects while leveraging the long-term commercial success of The Witcher franchise.
