John Korir shattered the Boston Marathon course record and defended his title on April 20, 2026, winning the 130th edition in 2:01:52 — the fifth-fastest marathon time ever and 70 seconds quicker than Geoffrey Mutai's 2011 mark.
Korir pulled away around Heartbreak Hill and finished 55 seconds ahead of Tanzania’s Alphonce Felix Simbu (2:02:47), with Kenya’s Benson Kipruto third (2:02:50). Sharon Lokedi repeated as women’s champion in 2:18:51, leading a Kenyan top four as Loice Chemnung and Mary Ngugi‑Cooper followed.
Both Korir and Lokedi earned $150,000 apiece; Korir received an additional $50,000 for the course record.
The race benefited from cool, clear conditions and a light tailwind that produced one of the fastest fields in Boston history.
U.S. entrants Zouhair Talbi (2:03:45) and Jess McClain (2:20:49) recorded the fastest Boston times by American men and women respectively.
Marcel Hug of Switzerland won his ninth men’s wheelchair title (1:16:06) and Britain’s Eden Rainbow‑Cooper took the women’s wheelchair crown (1:30:51). Organisers trialled crowd‑management measures and unveiled a statue honoring marathon pioneer Bobbi Gibb at the start.
