📰 Full Story
Microsoft on April 23 launched an "Agent Mode" — dubbed "vibe working" — that gives its Copilot assistant the ability to take direct action inside Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
The feature is being made the default experience for Microsoft 365 Copilot and Microsoft 365 Premium subscribers and is also available to Personal and Family plans.
Built on improved foundation models with stronger instruction following and multi-step reasoning, Agent Mode can draft and rewrite text in Word, make formula, table and visualization changes in Excel, and refresh slides in PowerPoint while preserving company templates.
A real-time sidebar shows every step Copilot takes, and Microsoft cites early customer metrics showing large bumps in Excel engagement, user satisfaction and retention.
The rollout follows criticism of previous, more passive Copilot integrations and comes with controls to review or turn off changes; admins will still face deployment and governance decisions as the assistant becomes more proactive inside corporate workflows.
