Meta on April 23 rolled out a new “Insights” tab in its Family Center supervision tools that shows parents the topics their teens have discussed with Meta AI on Facebook, Messenger and Instagram over the past seven days.
The feature provides weekly topic summaries (examples: School, Entertainment, Lifestyle, Travel, Writing, Health and Wellbeing) and allows parents to drill into subcategories but does not expose full chat transcripts.
The update is live in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada and Brazil, with a wider global rollout planned.
Meta also said it will add suggested conversation starters for parents and has formed an AI Wellbeing Expert Council; it is developing alerts for sensitive topics such as self-harm.
The move follows Meta’s January suspension of persona-driven AI characters for teen users and comes amid legal and regulatory pressure, including a recent New Mexico court ruling and ongoing inquiries into child safety on social platforms.
