Olivia Rodrigo says several songs on her third album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, were inspired by the on‑off relationship between Miranda Hobbes and Steve Brady from Sex and the City.
Speaking on The Tonight Show, Rodrigo described the record — due June 12 via Geffen — as a move toward romantic love in a more positive light while retaining “sadness and longing.” The LP’s lead single, “Drop Dead,” which Rodrigo calls about an “awesome first date,” opened at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
She will host and perform as musical guest on Saturday Night Live this weekend and will support the release with the Unraveled tour, a 65‑date arena run beginning Sept. 25 at the People’s United/PeoplesBank Arena in Hartford, Connecticut, with UK dates including multiple O2 Arena shows planned for April 2027.
Rodrigo cited influences such as the Cure and Lana Del Rey and said she watched Sex and the City repeatedly while writing material that mixes upbeat romance with melancholic tones.
