Poland has taken delivery of its first three Lockheed Martin F-35A Lightning II jets, flown into the 32nd Tactical Air Base at Łask on May 22, 2026, marking the start of a 32-aircraft acquisition agreed with the United States.
The arrival — supported en route by a U.S. KC-46A tanker — begins a delivery programme running through to 2030 that includes a comprehensive logistics and training package intended to embed fifth‑generation capabilities into the Polish Air Force.
Warsaw has bought missiles and sensors to arm the jets, including AIM‑9X Block II and AIM‑120D‑3 air‑to‑air weapons, AGM‑158B‑2 JASSM‑ER standoff munitions and AGM‑88G AARGM‑ER anti‑radiation missiles.
Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak‑Kamysz and senior military officials attended the welcome ceremony.
The F‑35s bring stealth, advanced sensor fusion, AESA radar and networked strike and intelligence capabilities to NATO’s eastern flank, replacing older Soviet‑era MiG‑29s and enhancing Poland’s ability to conduct air superiority, precision attack and intelligence missions in contested environments.
