Former England winger Raheem Sterling was arrested on suspicion of drug-driving after his Lamborghini collided with barriers on the M3 southbound close to the Minley Interchange on Thursday morning (28 May). Hampshire Police said no other vehicles were involved and no injuries were reported.
The 31-year-old, from Berkshire and currently at Dutch club Feyenoord after leaving Chelsea in January, was arrested on suspicion of driving a vehicle whilst unfit through drugs, driving dangerously, possession of a Class C drug and failing to provide a specimen.
He has been released on bail while inquiries continue.
Sources close to Sterling told media there is no proof of drugs in his system and said the player has suffered âimmeasurableâ psychological strain in recent years, describing him as feeling âworthlessâ and âforgotten about.â Sterling, who has 82 England caps and won four Premier League titles with Manchester City, joined Feyenoord in February and made eight appearances for the club before the incident.

Readers highlight that the reported charges can reflect both the immediate crash circumstances and police procedure: possession of a Class C drug need not mean illicit âhardâ drugs, a refusal to give a specimen is itself chargeable, and the short action of nitrous oxide implies active use while driving â all factors that shape likely legal and professional consequences for Sterling.
