Quentin Tarantino in a Sight & Sound op‑ed published June 3, 2026, sharply criticised contemporary Hollywood, saying post‑pandemic films are riddled with “flaws, implausibilities, audience pandering, miscast performers or just plain stupid s***” and calling the industry a “flavorless sausage factory.” The Oscar‑winning director said few recent releases have “swept” him and listed a handful he liked — including West Side Story (2021) and Horizon: An American Saga (2024) — but said he increasingly prefers reading.
He singled out Joe Carnahan’s Netflix crime thriller The Rip as an exception, praising Carnahan’s direction, the cast and the screenplay.
The Rip, which stars Matt Damon and Ben Affleck and features Steven Yeun, Teyana Taylor, Sasha Calle and Kyle Chandler, has drawn attention not only from critics but also a defamation suit reportedly filed by two Miami‑Dade police officers who say the film mixes fiction with real events.
Tarantino also revealed he is working on a stage play, The Popinjay Cavalier, due to open in London’s West End in 2027.
