German director Wim Wenders and his non-profit Wim Wenders Foundation said on June 3, 2026, they are withdrawing his 1975 film Falsche Bewegung (Wrong Move) from circulation after renewed public pressure from actress Nastassja Kinski.
Kinski, who was 13 when the film was shot, has for years sought removal or re-editing of a scene in which her character appears topless alongside an older male co-star.
Wenders apologised to Kinski, acknowledged she should have been better protected, and instructed streaming partners, broadcasters and distributors to cease public access pending a âmutually agreed solution.â He said he would seek a broad industry dialogue, including the German Film Academy and younger filmmakers, before deciding whether to alter the work.
The move follows criticism of Wenders after remarks at the German Film Awards in late May, and Kinskiâs lawyer has signalled potential legal action if the scene is not removed.
The foundation said the film will remain unavailable until an agreement that includes Kinski is reached.
