Spotify on April 30 rolled out a new “Verified by Spotify” badge to help listeners identify artist profiles run by real people amid a surge in AI-generated music and impersonators.
The green checkmark and accompanying label will appear on artist pages and in search results during a rolling rollout.
Spotify says profiles that primarily represent AI-generated or AI-persona acts are not eligible.
Verification will be granted through a mix of platform signals — sustained listener activity and search interest — and off-platform indicators such as touring, merch and linked social accounts, plus human review.
At launch Spotify expects to verify more than 99% of artists its users actively search for, many of them independent.
The company is also testing an artist details “nutrition label” showing milestones, releases and touring, and has previously introduced features like Artist Profile Protection and SongDNA to increase transparency.
The move follows industry concerns over mass uploads of AI tracks — rivals have reported large shares of new uploads being AI-generated — and broader efforts by labels and platforms to curb impersonation and low-quality AI “slop.”
