Amazon MGM has shelved the new Stargate series from showrunner Martin Gero, cancelling the project in early June 2026 just six months after it was ordered in November 2025.
Variety first reported the decision and Deadline, Engadget, IGN, Gizmodo, Polygon and Space.com subsequently confirmed it.
Sources say Amazon executives were concerned Geroâs legacyâdriven approach would not attract a broad mainstream audience beyond the franchiseâs passionate fanbase; Deadline reported the move followed leadership and strategic changes within Amazon MGM. The series had completed a roughly 20âweek writersâ room and entered preâproduction in the UK. Longtime Stargate veterans Brad Wright and Joe Mallozzi served as consulting producers; executive producers included Joby Harold, Tory Tunnell, Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich.
Mallozzi confirmed the cancellation on X. Amazon, which acquired MGM in 2022, remains open to other Stargate projects; Gero will continue to develop ideas under an overall deal with Amazon MGM Studios.
