Tom Holland said he has repeatedly turned down offers to host Saturday Night Live because his dyslexia makes reading live cue cards ‘petrifying,’ the actor told Amy Poehler on her Good Hang podcast on June 2-3, 2026.
Holland described himself as “heavily dyslexic,” explaining that while he can read, reading aloud can cause a mental block and freezing — an issue that makes SNL’s last-minute, handwritten cue-card format daunting.
He said he prepares by highlighting and memorising lines to skim rather than read during table-reads.
Holland, who has also discussed living with ADHD, said the reluctance is not from a lack of love for the show but fear of undermining a live broadcast.
His comments prompted public praise for his candour and renewed discussion about accessibility on live television, with fans and disability advocates suggesting pre-taped segments, earpieces or other accommodations.
Holland is promoting upcoming films, including Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and his remarks have reignited debate about how live formats can adapt to neurodivergent performers.
