Singer Nick Jonas has for the first time described the “very intense” circumstances surrounding the premature birth of his and Priyanka Chopra Jonas’s daughter Malti Marie.
Speaking on Jay Shetty’s On Purpose podcast on Feb. 4, 2026, Jonas said Malti was born via surrogate in January 2022 about three months early, weighing roughly 1 pound, 11 ounces.
He said neonatal staff resuscitated and intubated the newborn, who spent about three and a half months in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and required six blood transfusions.
Because the birth occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic, Jonas said he and Chopra Jonas alternated 12-hour shifts at the hospital to be with their child.
He described the experience as frightening but praised NICU staff and said Malti “fought every day” and is now thriving at age four.
Jonas’s account, carried widely by entertainment outlets on Feb. 4–5, 2026, offers rare public detail about the family’s private medical ordeal.
