📰 Full Story
Chuck Negron, a founding member and lead vocalist of 1960s-70s hitmakers Three Dog Night, died on Feb. 2, 2026 at his home in Studio City, California.
He was 83.
Negron’s publicist said he had long battled chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and had recently suffered heart failure; he died surrounded by family.
Negron sang lead on the group’s best-known singles, including the chart-topping “Joy to the World,” as well as “One,” “An Old Fashioned Love Song” and “The Show Must Go On.” Three Dog Night scored multiple No. 1 singles and numerous top-40 hits between the late 1960s and mid-1970s, becoming one of radio’s dominant acts of the era.
Negron’s career was marked by a high-profile struggle with heroin addiction that led to financial and personal collapse in the 1980s; he achieved long-term sobriety in 1991 and later chronicled his story in the memoir Three Dog Nightmare.
He reunited with bandmate Danny Hutton shortly before his death.
Negron is survived by his wife, Ami Albea Negron, five children and nine grandchildren.
